Why Ventilation is important in Chicken Coops

Why Ventilation is important in Chicken Coops

1. Remove the Extra moisture

The minimum ventilation system is responsible for removing excess moisture from the chicken coop.

Nowadays broilers of 28 days old will consume more than twice as much water as they did 25 years

ago. Approximately 75% of daily drinking water is discharged into manure or by the respiratory system.

If the ventilation system can not remove moisture that is discharged by chicken, this will be a very

dangerous and unhygienic environment, and it produce many bacteria, ammonia,  and insect spreads

However, proper management of moisture should ensure the balance between oxygen and carbon

dioxide.

2. Keep fresh air quality

The key requirement for a minimum ventilation system is to meet fresh air requirements for broilers,

and to ensure that the fresh air is well distributed throughout the house.

As ambient temperatures drop, chicks have to consume more oxygen to make their bodies comfortable.

Ventilation systems remove carbon dioxide and give the chicks the oxygen they need. Oxygen helps the

development of the cardiovascular system in chicks and avoids problems such as peritonitis. Peritonitis

can occur when oxygen needs to increase by 5%.

3. Adjust the temperature

The minimum ventilation system is to maintain a reasonable temperature distribution throughout the

chicken Coops. Chicks can not adjust their body temperature until the 14th day of age, and they depend

on extra heating supply to stay warm.

In the first 7 days, the body weight of chickens will be over 4 times than the body weight of one day old.

This is the only chance of achieving high growth in a week. However, if Chicken coop are cold, they are

less active and they consume less feed.If they do not eat feed, growth will be limited. Keep the chick's

warmth and ensure reasonable extra feed, It is crucial to supply enough fresh water and minimal

ventilation among the flock.
